Padma
Awards, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri
are given for exceptional and distinguished service in any field including
service rendered by Government servants. The recommendations for Padma Awards
are received from the State Governments/ Union Territory Administrations,
Central Ministries/ Departments, Institutions of Excellence, etc. which are
considered by an Awards Committee. On the basis of the recommendations of the
Awards Committee and after approval of the Home Minister, Prime Minister and
President, the Padma Awards are announced on the eve of the Republic Day.

1955, the badge design was altered to be a "mainly circular"
1-3/16-inch toned bronze badge with geometrical patterns. The center had a
lotus flower with four major petals embossed in white gold. Above and below
this flower, the name of the decoration Padma Vibhushan was embossed in
silver-gilt.

were announced on the eve of India’s 63rd Republic Day. 109 awards including one two case and 14 in the category of
Foreigners (NRI’s/PIO’s) Posthumous. They comprised of 5 Padma Vibhushan, 27 Padma Bhushan and 77 Padma Shri Awards. There
were 19 women among the awardees.

announced on January 25, 2013 on the eve of India’s 64th Republic Day. These
comprise of 108 awards in all. These
include 4 Padma Vibhushan, 24 Padma Bhushan
and 80 Padma Shri Awards. There are 24 women and 11 in the category of
Foreigners /NRI’s/PlO’s/Posthumous.

for the year 2014 announced on January 25, 2014 on the eve of India’s 65th
Republic Day. These comprise of 127
awards in all. These include 2 Padma
Vibhushan, 24 Padma Bhushan and 101 Padma Shri Awards. This year, 27 of the
Awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of
foreigners, NRIs, PIOs and Posthumous Awardees. These awards are conferred by
the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati
Bhawan usually around March/ April every year.
