Satyajit Ray was the winner of Bharat Ratna, special Oscar and many other national and international awards. He was the first Indian film maker to win 'Legion at Honour' the highest civilian award of France. He wrote a book titled 'our film and their films'

Ramanand Sagar is most famous for making the extremely popular Ramayan television series and Shri Krishna. He won the 1968 Filmfare Best Director Award for Ankhen and Filmfare Best Dialogue Award for Paigham. He started the serial Sai Baba, his last offering.

B R Chopra tasted success with ‘Afsana’ in the year 1951 and subsequently went on to produce and direct many blockbusters. He also made the famous tele serial ‘Mahabharata’ under his banner ‘BR Films’. He had been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award Filmfare Best director Award Kalakaar Awards and many more.  He had also served as a jury member at the 13th Berlin International Film Festival.          

Yash Raj Chopra is an Indian film maker, director, screenwriter, producer. He is the founder of Yash Raj Films. Chopra has won the Filmfare Award for Best Director and the Filmfare Award for Best Movie four times each. The Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005. Waqt, Deewar, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Lamhe, Chandni, Darr, Dil To Pagal Hai, Veer-Zaara are some of his popular movies.

Mani Ratnam is one of the biggest directors of South India as well as producer and writer, who has made movies in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Apart from being an ace director, Mani Ratnam also writes screenplays and is involved in production.

Mahesh Bhatt is a prominent Indian film director, producer and screenwriter. Bhatt directed Arth, Saaransh, Janam, Naam, Sadak and Zakhm. He was written numerous commercial films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and comedies like Duplicate, though he was mostly recognised for thrillers like Inteha, Jism, Murder and Woh Lamhe. His Lahu Ke Do Rang, bagged two Filmfare Awards in 1980.

Mira Nair an Indian born American film director and producer based in New York. She won Golden Camera award at Cannes in 1988. She also won the Golden lion award at Cannes in 1988 for “Monsoon Wedding” which is a adjudged as the best film at Venice film festival in September 2001. She won Gotham award for best film 'The Namesake'

Karan Johar is an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, Costume designer and Television host. Johar entered the film industry as an actor in  Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. He later made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which won him a Filmfare Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay Award.  My Name Is Khan earned him his 2nd Best Director award at the Filmfare ceremony.

Prakash Jha is an Indian film producer-director-screenwriter, who is most known for his socio-political films Damul, Mrityudand, Gangaajal, Apaharan and multi-starrer hit movie Raajneeti. He is also the maker of National Film Award winning documentaries like, Faces after the Storm, Sonal & Under the Blue.

Shekhar Kapur won international acclaim for directing Britains most successful historical film, Elizabeth. He is also directed the film on Nelson Mandela. He was greatly appreciated for his movie Bandit Queen.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra: His first student short 'Murder At Monkey Hill' won the National Film Award for the Best Short Experimental Film and also the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for Best Student Film.

Rajkumar Hirani is one of the leading film directors in India today. The success of his two directorial ventures 'Munnabhai MBBS' & 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'. Movie '3 Idiot' also his great achivement which got most of the award in 2010.
