Indian
Premier League is a Twenty20 cricket tournament where different franchise teams
participate for the title. The tournament started in 2008 and from then it
usually takes place every year in the months of April–June. IPL is the
most-watched Twenty20 cricket league in the world and also known for its
commercial success. It is currently sponsored by Pepsi and thus officially
known as the “Pepsi Indian Premier League.”
Of
the 11 teams to have competed since the inception of the Premier League in
2008, five have won the title: Kolkata Knight Riders (2), Chennai Super Kings
(2), Rajasthan Royals (1), Deccan Chargers (1) and Mumbai Indians (2).

IPL 2015
The 2015 season of the Indian Premier League, abbreviated as IPL
8 or Pepsi IPL 2015, was the eighth season of the IPL, a Twenty20 cricket
league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007.
The tournament featured eight teams and was held from 8 April 2015 to 24 May
2015. The tournament's opening ceremony was held at the Salt Lake Stadium in
Kolkata on 7 April 2015. Kolkata Knight Riders were the defending champions
having won the title in the 2014 season.
On 24 May 2015, Mumbai Indians won the tournament by defeating
Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs to win the IPL title for the second time in the
Final at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma was awarded
player of the match in the final for his knock of 50 from 26 balls. Andre
Russell of the Knight Riders was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the
season.
Prize
Money
The 2015 season of the IPL offered a total prize money of 40
crore (US$6.0 million), with the winning team netting 15 crore (US$2.3
million). The first and second runners
up received 10 and 7.5 crores, respectively, with the fourth placed team also
winning 7.5 crores. The other teams are not awarded any prize money. The IPL
rules mandate that half the prize money must be distributed among the players.

IPL-4 Tournament was won by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by defeating
RCB in 2011.

IPL-5 Tournament was won by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 by
defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 27, 2012 in Chennai. Golden player of
the tournament was Sunil Naraine (KKR), Orange Cap holder Chris Gayle (RCB) and
Purple Cap holder Morne Morkel (DD).

IPL-6 Tournament is won by Mumbai Indians by defeating Chennai
Super Kings (CSK) in May, 2013 amidst the raging allegations of spot fixing and batting. Dwayne Bravo of CSK won Purple cap and Mike Hussey of CSK
won Orange cap in this tournament.

IPL-7 Tournament is won by Kolkata
Knight Riders by defeating Kings XI Punjab. This was the second IPL they have
won. Orange cap was won by Kolkata Knight Riders's Robin Uthappa & Purple
cap was won by Chennai Super King's Mohit Sharma. Glenn Maxwell was named Man
of the Tournament.

IPL-8 Tournament is won by Mumbai Indians by defeating Chennai Super Kings.
