Sports and Adventure Awards 2015
National
Sports Awards are given every year to recognize & reward excellence in
sports. Apart from a Medal and a Citation, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee
received a cash prize of Rs. 7.5 Lakh. Dronacharya, Arjuna and Dhyanchand
Awardees received Statuettes, Citations and Cash prize of Rs. 5 Lakh each.
Recipients of Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar were given Trophies. President
of India conferred the following National Sports & Adventure Awards at a specially
organized function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
1. Rajiv
Gandhi Khel Ratna Award:
Highest sports award in India instituted in 1991-92 is given for the most
spectacular and outstanding performance in the field of sports by a
sportsperson over a period of four years immediately preceding the year during
which the award is to be given. The awardees are given a medal, ceremonial
dress, certificate and award money of Rs. 7.5 lakh.
2. Dronacharya
Awards: The
award instituted in 1985 is given to eminent Coaches who have successfully
trained sportspersons or teams and enabled them to achieve outstanding results
in international competitions.
3. Arjuna
Awards: The
award instituted in 1961 is given to sportspersons for consistently outstanding
performance for four years preceding the year of award and for qualities of
leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.
4. Dhyanchand
Award: The award
instituted in 2002 is given for
Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games who have contributed to sports by
their performance and continue to contribute to the promotion of sports even
after their retirement from active sporting career.
5. Tenzing
Norgay National Adventure Awards:
The awards are the highest national recognition for outstanding achievement in
the field of adventure activities.
6. Maulana
Abul Kalam Azad Trophy:
The award instituted in 1956-57 is given to top overall performing university
in Inter-University Tournaments.
7. Rashtriya
Khel Protsahan Puruskar:
The award is given to recognize contribution made to sports development by
entities other than sportspersons and coaches.
President of India conferred on 29 August, 2015 the following
National Sports & Adventure Awards at a specially organized function at
Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
(i) Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ranta 2015
Ms.
Sania Mirza (Tennis) was conferred with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna 2015.
(ii) Dronacharya Awards 2015
Following

attend the Award Ceremony as presently they are participating in international
tournaments abroad.
** Shri Swaran Singh could not attend the
Award Ceremony as he is admitted in hospital for treatment of an injury.
They
will be given Awards later by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for
Youth Affairs & Sports.

Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2013-14
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy 2014 is given to the institutions for their all spherical performance in Inter-University Tournaments. The winner receives a replica of the Trophy and a money award of ten lakh rupees which is used utilized for development of games and sports.
President Pranab Mukherjeel presents the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for 2013-14 to representatives of Punjabi University, Patiala, during the National Sports and Adventure Awards function at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on August 29, 2014.
